Interview about the Eye Relaxation Training

Many people in Taiwan have functional eye or vision problems. Glasses, contacts or even Lasik’s eye surgery help them to see more clearly, but they don’t cure the problems many have with their eyes. We are living in a very vision oriented society. In our daily life we need to read small prints on the smart phone or tablet pc, on the computer monitor or from print outs. We spend many hours watching television, surfing in the internet or playing computer games. Many of us have hardly any chance to see at fare distance. Eyes and vision problems are the result.  More people complain about dry eyes or burning sensation in their eyes, about tiredness, headaches or middle age vision loss than ever before. In this training you learn how to prevent the eyes from deterioration and how to support the regeneration potential of the eyes and you discover how to keep the eyes relaxed while seeing.

Interviewer: So your training can help people to coop better with their vision problems and to reduce the underlying visual stress?

G.: Exactly. The participants of the training get a better understanding of their own vision and learn to know more about their own eyes and what they need to function better. Afterwards they can use their knowledge to educate others, for ex. how to relax vision in day-to-day activities; including computer work, reading, driving, cooking etc.Possible is also to improve their own vision, to gain more visual strength and to reduce the eye glass prescription.

Interviewer: You mean at the end they might see better and they will be able to work and instruct others?

G.: Yes that’s the whole idea of the training. First you get a better understanding of your own vision and based on this experience you help others. The participants learn to create a vision relaxation program for individuals and how to teach eye relaxation & eye carein organizations; like schools or firms as well.

In my practice I often have clients with computer related vision problems. I help them to get in contact with the needs, the likes and dislikes of their eyes. Mostly for the first time they begin to feel their own eyes from inside. As they come closer they notice the tension accumulated in the eye muscles and in the area around the eyes. A lot of the problems are based on stress. I show stress release techniques for the eyes. And many times after such stress release work they notice how the muscles get loose, get relaxed and as a result they begin to see more clearly. And as the eyes relax, the whole person can relax more easily.

I am also visiting small and big companies and help and educate their staff to use their eyes in a more creative and less tense way. I show them how to coop better with computer- and work related stress. The results are remarkable. After such an education they know themselves how to prevent visual stress and how to keep their eyes fit and in good shape. Both sides win - the employees and the company. Sometimes it changes the whole climate in their offices. Employees became more understanding and caring with each other and less sick, have less accidents and are more relaxed and present.

Interviewer: What kind of techniques are you teaching in the Eye Care Training?

G.: Participants learn eye relaxation exercises, mindfulness based stress release techniques, they get to know the psychosomatic background of vision problems,  they learn special interview techniques, for ex. “Journey into the eyes”; we practice eye mediations, conscious seeing, soft vision and space perception, Qi Gong for eye regeneration, eye massage, art – techniques, Nutrition for better vision, Supplements (vitamins & minerals) to increase the vitality of the eyes, healthy computing, ergonomic office set up and of course they learn about the anatomical function of the eyes.

The training consists of 4 modules, each of 1 weekend. If participants aiming to become an instructor, they need to take part in all 4 modules and they should practice at least for 6 months and given a report of several cases. If someone participates for his own private purpose he/she can book the modules individually.

Interviewer: Can anyone participate in the training?

G.: Yes – since it is an educational and not a medical program, people do not need a medical license to participate or to practice.

Interviewer: It seems to be a very new area of education.

G.: We say: “new paths are created by walking on it”. At the moments it is like a new or virgin area, but there will be an increasing demand for eye care, especially since the new media are very challenging tasks for the eyes. In many European countries and in USA as well, you will find Vision Fitness Coaches for adults, for children, for sports vision, for elderly people and Eye Care specialists in the health prevention programs of some companies. Sometimes these coaches work together with an eye doctor or optician and sometimes they work self-employed in their private office. And I myself work successfully in this field since more than 25 years. Years ago I have been like a pioneer. Hardly anyone could see and understand the need for eye care. But nowadays it is very obvious that vision prevention is very much needed and should take part in all areas of life, from childhood to old age.

Interviewer: Can you tell me something about yourself?

G.: I am naturopath and work with vision and eyes since more than 25 years. I am practicing in a health center in Northern Germany and running Eye seminars all over the world. In my clinical work I am using special eye acupuncture and colorpuncture to treat successfully eye disease, like glaucoma, macula degeneration, cataract etc. I am running educational and preventative programs for eye care, for mindfulness and stress release.

Interviewer: Thank you George
